We did not get to sample any of the appetizing menu items, but will be sure to come back for this new and exciting take on Indian food - definitely a favorite cuisine among the Manhattan Sideways team. “Tiffin,” an English slang term for “light meal,” is how Jawahar would describe the meals served at Soho Tiffin Junction, all incredibly affordable and healthy. The food at Soho Tiffin Junction is almost completely organic and the most expensive thing on the menu costs about $12, so the food is affordable as well as unique in its flavors. Previously a banker, his idea was to open a restaurant that would operate in a “quick service” format, where he could serve affordable, traditional Indian food while also having it be accessible to people who wanted to eat their food on the go. One of the three owners, Jawahar, explained to us that Indian food, as it is served in India, is typically in the form of a very light and healthy meal. Soho Tiffin Junction was born from the idea of recreating Indian food as it is currently approached in the United States. We were so excited to happen upon Soho Tiffin Junction - a unique spot - when we revisited 8th Street.
